Xtreme Bio Media

The ridges on the outer surface of the media provide a tighter interstitial spacing with the adjacent media and protect the bio film during backwash. The inner hollow space with extended spikes allow water circulation thru the individual media and thru the entire media bed which is important for eliminating channeling problems. These spikes retain dirt within the inner space and also provide tremendous surface area for bacteria colonization. This is very important factors that eliminate Ammonia spike after each backwash as compared to that of the sand or bead filters.

Xtreme Bio Media are hollow tube media which allow water flows through the media bed with little or no restriction at first. The water flow will gradually reduced as dirt accumulated in the media bed then backwashing the filter is required. The adjacent spaces between the media and the cavities inside the media allow dirt to be collected more than that of the sand or bead media, therefore, backwashing the filter is required less often. In most cases, we recommend backwash only once a month. But it also depends on the design of the pond, number of fish, and feeding frequency, backwash may be required more often than recommended.
